Mumbai/ Kolkata, Oct 20 : Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always been committed to improve the holistic growth and development of children.
In line with this philosophy, Tata Power organized and hosted the 1st Mahseer Hatchery visit for Club Enerji school children under its Act for Mahseer Initiative at Walwhan, Lonavala to showcase the conservation methods to save the mighty Mahseer fish.
The objective of this initiative was to broaden the children’s horizon and expose them to experiential education as opposed to daily lessons in class.
More than 30 children from 5 schools attended the session. During the visit, children were educated on the journey of a Mahseer fish through its life, its habitat requirements, various reasons due to which the species is endangered and conservation practices, employed by Tata Power.
The children visited the Mahseer hatchery, where they saw the Mahseer in various life stages, from eggs to fingerlings to fish.
Speaking on the visit, Mahesh Paranjpe, Head – Hydros, Tata Power stated, “Tata Power understands that quality education is of prime importance to build a strong economy. Education is not merely about studying textbooks but about exposing ourselves and learning details about the environmentaround us. This initiative will facilitate the students learning and assist in making education more interactive and interesting. Our efforts at nation building go beyond lighting up lives and includes caring for the community as well as flora and fauna near our areas of operations. We were delighted to see the happiness on the children’s faces as they learnt about the various parameters and growth of Mahseer fishes, and will continue to organise such intiatives in future.”
